COOLIING SYSTEM

Did you know that overheating is the most common cause of mechanical breakdowns on Sydney roads? And that overheating your car can cause severe damage to the engine and the automatic transmission? Maintaining your vehicle’s radiator, fluids and cooling system is essential to keeping your car on the road.

Coolant (anti-freeze)

The coolant protects your engine from overheating and from freezing. The coolant's effectiveness can diminish over time and lose many of its protective properties. The cooling system itself can get clogged with built-up deposits from oil, grease, scale, hose decomposition, and other materials.

Changing your Coolant

For the cooling system, the coolant/antifreeze manufacturers recommend changing the coolant once a year, and some service manuals stipulate flushing and refilling the radiator every 12 months, regardless of mileage. Check your car's owner manual to see the recommended interval for changing the coolant in your vehicle. Some reasons for getting new coolant

  • Your vehicle has recently overheated
  • Your coolant or temperature light comes on
  • Your temperature gauge reads higher or lower than normal

Coolant System Flush and Fill, Why this is important

Coolant system failure is a leading cause of mechanical breakdown. It is also one of the most neglected systems on the vehicle, despite being one of the most simple to maintain. Rust, scale, sludge and air reduce its effectiveness and can cause premature failure of components. When properly maintained, coolant prevents freezing and boiling in your engine and improves heat transfers. It also lubricates the water pump and prolongs the life of other system components. A regular flush and fill maintains the proper pH level while preventing a harmful build-up of scale, corrosion and debris.
